Course Outline
- Moving and handling people in a way that reduces the effort required
of the carer
- Moving and handle people in a manner that gives the client the greatest
comforfort and dignity.
- Understand how manual handling legislation applies to care workers
- Gain a better understanding of the spine and how it works
- Take care of your own back and that of clients and other staff
- Carry out risk assessments for clients
- Move people safely with and without the use of people handling equipment

- Manual Handling Legislation
- Anatomy of the Spine
- Ergonomics and Biomechanics
- Safe Lifting risk assessment- T.I.L.E
- Lifting inanimate Objects
- Risk Assessments
- Equipment including slide sheets, handling belts, hand blacks, transfer
boards, hoists and slings.
- Stopping the use of Controversial Techniques
Duration and Assessment
One day 6 hour course (excluding breaks)
On going practical assesemtn throught the day
House certificate
