All employers are required to carry out a risk
assessment of their first aid requirements and make appropriate
provision.
Where the business is low hazard such as offices, shops, libraries,
then it may be sufficient to only provide one or more appointed persons
rather than a first aider.
The appointed person is there take charge of a situation, call for
appropriate first aid assistance, record incidents and maintain the
first aid facilities.
Candidates attend the first part of an Emergency First Aid at Work
course where the training will cover:
- The legal requirements for first aid provision
- Assessment
and management of first aid incidents
- The importance of accurate incident reporting
- First aid equipment and its care
- The need to minimise the risk of infection
- The importance of assessing an incident
- When and how to call for help
Candidates will be awarded a house certificate and provided with
a comprehensive first aid handbook.
This course does not qualify the candidate to administer first aid.
